Rebecca Burton- voice & piano
Teaching Philosophy
My biggest priority as a music teacher is making music lessons an educational experience that also fosters a love of creating art. One of the most important things I can offer my students is positive experiences with music, and this is my main focus as I teach technique, artistry, and music fluency. My teaching style is compassionate and encouraging; in my studio, you will find a safe space to learn, grow, make mistakes, and discover a lifelong love of music.

Biography

Rebecca began taking piano lessons at the age of six, which sparked the fire of her love of music. She became an active performer through her school district, participating in orchestra and choir, and even tried her hand at jazz piano in her high school jazz band. Rebecca's favorite performing experience from that time was starring as Mabel in her high school's production of "The Pirates of Penzance".

At the age of 16, Rebecca began teaching beginning piano and voice lessons. She taught youth of many ages, and discovered her love of teaching others, especially children. After she graduated high school, she took a break from teaching to pursue a degree in music. Rebecca's education allowed her to learn from voice instructors at Idaho State University, Kirkwood Community College, and University of Iowa. After her time at Kirkwood, Rebecca began teaching voice lessons again through Dynamic Music Studios in summer of 2021. She also began teaching piano lessons again that fall.

Rebecca's students are very involved in community music productions and ensembles, such as the Young Footliters Youth Theatre and the Iowa City Youth Choir. She helps her students prepare for auditions and to feel confident with their performances. Teaching is a joy for Rebecca, and she looks forward to a long career of helping young musicians grow.
