Teaching Philosophy
I tend to have a holistic and intuitive approach to teaching. I take every student for who they are and meet them where they are at, and we work on a personalized "lesson plan" from there. Whether they want to improve fundamentals, keep up with school ensembles, enter competitions, I am there to make sure they are prepared for anything! I also believe in teaching the whole person, not just the flutist. I take into account their own personal experiences and how it influences their music making, and how they can develop their own "musical handshake" (this is not a term I coined!). I also believe that flute playing is the closest we can get to singing since it uses a lot of the same muscles, so my teaching pulls inspiration from singers I've known/worked with.
